This Sunday there was a brilliant turn out for the seventh annual Santa Fun Run in aid of the Bosom Friends cancer support group.
Those who don’t believe in Father Christmas should have been in Barnoldswick this Sunday to witness hundreds Santas taking part in a special community fundraiser.
Despite snow on the ground and a cold chill in the air, over 220 people dressed as Santa Claus came out to show their support for the top local charity.
Sharon Hurst, a volunteer for Bosom Friends cancer support group said “Our Santa runs over the last 6 years, plus this year’s event, have raised over £37,000. As usual there is great support whatever the weather from the community for this great fund-raising cause.”
Ian Bythell, a Director of Petty Real, one of the event sponsors, said “as part of our support for the community of Barnoldswick and Earby, we are proud to help Sharon in making this event a success year on year!”
Other sponsors of the event were West Craven Insurance, Hope Technology, Rolls Royce, and Barnoldswick and Earby Rotary Society.
The Santa Fun Run was hotly contested and first across the line was 12-year-old Morgan McCredie who goes to West Craven School.
The promising young athlete won the event by quite a margin and his winning achievement was witnessed by the Barlick Fell Runners who, along with the Rotary society, were marshals for the event.
Bosom Friends was created in 2000 and since then they have been dedicated to helping people affected by cancer in the Pendle, Craven and Ribble Valley areas.
Sharon and her elves are already preparing for next year’s event.
